An analogy to our complicity in the deaths in Gaza are exemplified in a 1955 movie, “We’re No Angels”, a comedy about three convicts who have escaped from Devil’s Island and are taking refuge with a family who run a not very successful business in a small town. The family is threatened when the rich absentee owner arrives from Paris to take over the store. While this owner is in the other room, the pet viper of one of the convicts gets loose in the other room and the three convicts have a conversation about letting the absentee owner know about the snake. They are trying to decide who should tell him. After much discussion, they decide to play cards and whoever loses will have to tell him. After one game, they decide two out of three would be better. Needless to say, by the time they decide, they find the man in the other room is dead of snakebite. But what could they do??
Although many of the roles are reversed in the Gaza matter, the idea of putting off any real solutions until after the deadliest effects have taken place certainly is applicable. While Netanyahu continues his deadly genocide in Gaza and the US continues to totally support and defend these actions, the Biden administration continues to talk of ending the war and supporting humanitarian aid while our actions are clearly working in a totally opposite direction.
And while the Biden administration continues this pretense of concern for the civilians in Gaza, the talks continue to drag on with no likelihood of Netanyahu’s agreement. We all know what the game is about. We can continue to dither while more and more Palestinians continue to die in Gaza.
We know the endgame, if we put any solution off long enough, there will be no Palestinians left in Gaza and it will become a fait accompli. While we play the failed negotiations card game, the viper, Netanyahu, is bringing sure death to Gaza.
While we dither, there have been nearly 40,000 Palestinian deaths in Gaza since October 7, 2023, not counting those buried in the rubble. That is an average of 5000 a month since the Israelis began their war of retribution against everyone and everything in Gaza. That is several hundred a week. A war which has now turned into genocide by any imaginable standard. An obscene and inhuman slaughter of men, women and children, the aged and infirm, as well as the destruction of an entire society with all its artifacts.
And this is being carried out by a nation, Israel, under the auspices of Joe Biden as president of the United States, with not only his full awareness and protection, but also our political, economic, and military support including supplying weapons, intelligence and logistics.
Mr. Biden has also protected Israel from any action by the international community and has gone so far as to attack those who would support the Palestinians, militarily in Yemen, and diplomatically on the international level, not to mention the suppression of support for the Palestinians in this nation with draconian measures.
This is a U.S. proxy war against the Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank using Netanyahu and Israel as our proxy.
Meanwhile Mr. Biden pretends to be trying really hard to end the conflict while continuing to feed the conflagration. This is not true concern but concern with a wink and a nudge. While he seems to dither, real human beings in Gaza continue to die, denied even any humanitarian aid, trapped within a prisonlike compound and starved by their jailers.
The viper is still loose and causing death. But apparently, he is our viper.
Too much like Nero fiddling while Rome burns.
FOR SHAME!!! This is not the nation we signed up for, nor is it the nation that so many died for.
Thanks, Rob.
Sounds more like LBJ and the timing would be right.
But the pretense of negotiations while the genocide continues is quite unconscionable.
And the carnage continues as does the dithering. Some reports are now putting the real death toll at over 150,000. Sad day for humanity and for the ideals of this nation.
