First, I want to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and thank you for the invaluable gift of your ongoing support. It truly means a great deal to me.
As you may know, writing can be a solitary and often lonely pursuit, which is why your responses and comments are so appreciated. There’s never a shortage of events to draw inspiration from, and for me, writing has always been a way to process life’s complexities. I often say that writing is how I maintain my sanity. Putting my thoughts on paper helps me clarify them, understand them, and ultimately find ways to address them.
Now, as I enter my ninth decade on this planet, I find the perspective gained through the years allows me to view current events in a broader context—as part of a much larger picture. We seem to be on the cusp of a new era, one that challenges our old definitions of ourselves, our society, and the world.
This shift is accompanied by increasingly intrusive technology and new challenges to what it means to be human. The incoming national administration appears poised to impose new restrictions on free speech and seems willing to pass judgment on ideas it deems counter to its vision for the nation and the world.
Contemplating these changes, I do not want to get caught in the crosscurrents of the transition to a new administration while new norms are being determined.Considering those changes, I intend to step back from the day-to-day political discourse to focus on larger, enduring issues. I will also spend more time on the books I am working on; one on democracy, one on individual empowerment and one on the development of humanity in addition to working on my memoirs. I can also use this time to gather and consolidate my articles and essays as well as my poetry and short stories
As we move into the new year, I look forward to exploring these deeper questions with you, while I wait to see what the New Year may bring to this nation, the world and the planet.
But, no matter what, be of good faith!
Warm regards,
Bob Passi
