The making of a tinderbox in the Middle East.
Part of it was oil, part of it was the politics after WWI and then WWII, part of it was interjecting Israel as the last European colony, but the feelings of the Arab population have been rubbed the wrong way, and the friction of that and the power politics of Western Europe and the US has created a tinderbox, always ready to erupt into flames with just a small spark, not to mention striking matches in that explosive environment.
Western European and US involvement has continued to play with fire with their greed about the oil of the Middle East and the politics that goes with it, not to mention the continual addition of American money, weapons and technology to our friends, putting pressure on those deemed our enemies.
While proclaiming and attacking Islamic terrorism, we have also condoned the terrorism of the involvement of our troops and the history of Israeli terrorism against the Palestinians since the formation of the State of Israel and continuing through several wars and clearly present in the devastation of Gaza as we watch daily.
We continue to condemn the support of Iran for those movements we do not condone while we are so blatantly providing support and military hardware and technology to our friends, especially Israel and Saudi Arabia. We choose to overlook the fact that we are the outsiders while Iran is an integral part of the Middle East.
Even while condemning resistance movements and other flair-ups of killings, we condone the destructiveness of Israel in Gaza and Saudi Arabia in Yemen. Meanwhile we continue to provocatively have military bases all over the region without any real authority from anyone. Those bases are more like tantalizing bait to provide an excuse to attack or to pressure other nations when any of our troops are killed or injured.
To top it all off, we seem willing to risk starting a regional war again if anyone dares to oppose the Israeli destruction of the people in Gaza. It would almost appear that Israel is carrying out some significant part of US foreign policy with their ethnic cleansing of Gaza in preparation of Israeli expansion.
It has been clear to the world for a long time that the Middle East, as the West has constructed it, is a tinderbox and that the Biden administration’s policies seem to be willing to provide endless boxes of matches, and even lighting some, while insisting, they are only pursuing peace and unity.
Who does this administration think they are fooling? Who do they think will not see through their rhetoric to their real goals? This seems to be a continuation of the use of the very blunt weapon of our military to meet our foreign policy goals. What are those goals anyway?
Some may think that this is a continuation of our policy of “Forever Wars” without any clear exit strategies. Or is there no exit strategy because we, like Israel, want to stay as an army of occupation to control and manipulate the politics and economies of the region.
