I thought I would add to this sense of alarm by sharing with you what I wrote to a close friend and schoolmate of mine who lives comfortably in exile - in the Bordeaux Region of France:
We are long past recognizing that we have, with the votes of 28% of eligible American voters, "democratically" elected a fascist regime.
It is "in the books" now.
It is unerasable American history.
In 1933, the Germans had an excuse. They had elected their preferred party candidates, state by state, and the Nazis did not win a majority in any of the states. It was the insiders in Berlin, the oligarchs, monarchists, and industrialists (who thought they could control Adolf Hitler). They are the ones who ushered him into the Chancellorship.
Here in Amerika, we have managed to out-Nazi the Nazis. We have given our Nazis a plurality of the national popular vote, and we are now on our way to build our own Tausendjährige (thousand-year) Reich.
The dream of "the New American Century" (invented by the Neocons in the 1990s) is late in arriving, but it is now underway! Sieg Heil!
Now what?
As I mentioned, we are long past recognizing that we have elected a fascist regime, and they are now doing what every self-respecting fascist regime does - they are using every sliver and ounce of power they have acquired by virtue of their election to office to consolidate and enlarge their control over what happens next.
So, it is now all about actively educating, organizing, resisting, undermining, and opposing by all means available.
That has to be our answer to Vladimir Lenin's query, "What is to be done?".
We have an advantage in the fact that Trump is one of the most ignorant and self-absorbed people to ever enter the White House, and his penchant for hiring only the most loyal and most incompetent minions leaves his fascist regime open to blundering and misreading just how much the American people will tolerate.
Bob, we have to devote every waking hour to our resistance!
Excellent! It would be better if it were only Trump we had to deal with, but it is the legions of Project 2025 people and their minions ready to step in. Trump is only the face and the lightening rod for anger; much more dangerous and sinister people are waiting in the wings.
