August 2024
August was an exceptionally lush month this year, not the usually hot, dry August of years past.
And the grass is still lush and needs continual mowing, not like the dry, brown remains of grass in the usual Minnesota August.
The gardens are still lush,
And the flowers like the Tiger Lilies continue,
As do the begonias,
And the marigolds,
And the phlox,
And still that unusual, unknown flower, this time with a bee.
Our pots are thriving,
As are the wildflowers by the river
The apples are nearly ready for picking.
And animals; we always have the birds, and a flock of turkeys
And the deer,
And the chipmunks,
And the squirrels, including this one with a strange, striped tail; suggesting a mother squirrel perhaps having a wild fling with a racoon some night in the past.
And with our yard full of oak trees, we have acorns in the yard, in the driveway, on the deck, and loudly bouncing off our roof, soon leaving only husks.
This is the month that ends summer, with its memories of picnics and peaceful days and the coming of September with its cooling fall-like weather, fresh starts and school, the crunch of apples, the sound of marching bands and local football.
Thanks so much Joey
Thanks Sandy. We love living where we do. Hope all is well with you.
