Clarifying the Focus of the Newsletter “Perspectives”
Now that I have had a couple of weeks to understand how substack.com works and how to get the processes set up, I want to clarify the purpose of my newsletter, “Perspectives-Bob Passi”.
Think of this newsletter as a record, or a journal, of a journey. (The original definition of a journey was the distance one can cover in one day.) This journey has two elements, one of which is of more importance than the other. The first part of that journey is about how I got to the present moment; what I learned along the way and how it shaped my present perceptions and perspectives. The second, and most important part, is the continuing journey we find ourselves on with so much at stake. My hope is that what I have learned through my 82 years of existence and my perceptions of what is happening now might help put things into some perspective which might help not only to understand what is happening, but also to provide some help in finding workable solutions.
The focus of this continuing journey will be on:
· The perception that democracy is the most valuable system of governance if we want to be supportive of the growth, development and personal empowerment of ordinary people.
· The perception that we are a part of an integrated web of life on this planet, which requires our attention to retain its sustainable balance.
· The perception that life is dynamic so we must learn to accept and embrace change and adapt to new realities as they emerge.
· The perception that change takes many forms and that confrontation and competition are some of the least effective of these. Instead, I will look at simply finding better alternatives to support.
· The perception that a “coalition of the willing” to start and support better alternatives can be a powerful beginning, understanding that our examples are powerful in garnering support.
· The perception that our humanity is the most crucial element of our existence and that technological changes can be helpful but retaining our humanity is crucial, never to be exchanged for convenience or speed.
· The perception that human community and cooperation are incredibly powerful and important tools to building a sustainable planet.
· The perception that we must find humane solutions to human problems.
· The perception that supporting personal empowerment and individual growth and development is one of the best means of developing helpful and responsible human beings.
· The perception that the official edicts and elective politics do not necessarily restrict our personal lives and that activity outside the existing systems or beside them can be powerful as a means of affecting change.
· The perception that the 99% can come back into control if we can find ways to consolidate, putting our differences aside in the noble effort to take this journey back to sustainable sanity together.
My hope is that you may find my experiences and earlier writing interesting and perhaps even informative, but also that you will see the value of the present journey back to a sustainable sanity.
I invite you to join me and others who are willing to make that journey.
Part of the success of this journey will be dependent on your willingness to share this opportunity with others and to comment along the way to begin to build a traveling community.
Just a note: The idea of a free subscription is not some gimmick to get people to move to a paying subscription. With a free subscription you can continue on as long as you like. I want this journey to be open to all who are willing to join without any financial strings attached. I also welcome any who are willing and able to support this effort with a paid subscription.
