Bob - For what it is worth, I agree 100% with you on this premise and support your advocacy for a new mandate. No matter what you think about China, its pathway to becoming the largest trading partner in so many countries in the world (supplanting the U.S.) was trade & investment- not via colonization and the use of armed forces ("From the halls of Montezuma to the shores of Tripoli").

For all the distaste many may have for China's "Socialism with Chinese Characteristics", China, since its "inception" 5,000+ years ago, has been all about trading with other sovereign nations.

Accordingly, like it or not, China's influence in the world - especially in the "global south" (and in the (expanding) BRICS, has grown immensely. In response to this "threat", the current U.S. administration is beating the drums of war, surrounding China militarily, and attempting to contain it.

We need to find a way to create a mandate for constructive and collaborative engagement with the rest of the world - while we go all out to preserve our still-emerging constitutional democracy. It's the difference between "principled leadership" and "domination". We need the former. - Rob
